Κεφάλαιο 137

1. ΣΤΑ ποτάμια τής Βαβυλώνας, εκεί καθήσαμε, και κλάψαμε, όταν θυμηθήκαμε τη Σιών.

2. Στις ιτιές, που είναι μέσα σ' αυτή, κρεμάσαμε τις κιθάρες μας.

3. Επειδή, αυτοί που μας αιχμαλώτισαν, εκεί ζήτησαν από μας λόγια ασμάτων· κι αυτοί που μας ερήμωσαν, ζήτησαν ύμνο, λέγοντας: Ψάλτε σε μας από τις ωδές τής Σιών.

4. Πώς να ψάλουμε την ωδή τού Κυρίου σε ξένη γη;

5. Αν σε λησμονήσω, Ιερουσαλήμ, ας λησμονήσει το δεξί μου χέρι!

6. Ας κολληθεί η γλώσσα μου στον ουρανίσκο μου, αν δεν σε θυμάμαι· αν δεν προτάξω την Ιερουσαλήμ στην αρχή τής ευφροσύνης μου!

7. Θυμήσου, Κύριε, τους γιους τού Εδώμ, που την ημέρα τής Ιερουσαλήμ έλεγαν: Κατεδαφίστε την, κατεδαφίστε την, μέχρι τα θεμέλιά της.

8. Θυγατέρα τής Βαβυλώνας, που πρόκειται να ερημωθείς, μακάριος εκείνος που θα σου ανταποδώσει την ανταμοιβή των όσων έκανες σε μας!

9. Μακάριος εκείνος που θα πιάσει και θα ρίξει τα νήπιά σου επάνω στην πέτρα!
