1. ਯਹੋਯਾਕੀਮ ਯੋਸ਼ੀਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਯਹੋਯਾਕੀਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਚੌਬਾ ਵਰ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ, ਨਬੀ ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੇਰੀਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਾਰੂਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੀਆਂ। ਬਾਰੂਕ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਪੱਤਰੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਖ ਲਈਆਂ। ਇਹ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਬਾਰੂਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ:

2. "ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ:

3. 'ਬਾਰੂਕ, ਤੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ: ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾੜੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗ਼ਮ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੈਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।"'

4. ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, "ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ, ਬਾਰੂਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਖ: 'ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ: ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਢਾਹ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ। ਜੋ ਵੀ ਮੈਂ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਟ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਮੈਂ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।

5. ਬਾਰੂਕ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਮਹਾਨ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈਂ। ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਕ ਨਾ ਰੱਖ, ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਭੇਜਾਂਗਾ।' ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖੀਆਂ 'ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ।"'
