บท 12

1. พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า

2. "จงกล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอลว่า ถ้าหญิงคนใดมีครรภ์คลอดบุตรเป็นชาย นางต้องเป็นมลทินเจ็ดวัน นางจะเป็นมลทินอย่างเดียวกับมลทินเวลาที่นางมีประจำเดือน

3. ในวันที่แปดให้ตัดหนังปลายองคชาตของเด็กนั้นเสียเพื่อเป็นการเข้าสุหนัต

4. ให้นางคอยอยู่อีกสามสิบสามวันด้วยเรื่องโลหิตชำระของนาง อย่าให้นางแตะต้องของบริสุทธิ์อันใด หรือเข้าไปในสถานบริสุทธิ์ จนกว่าจะครบวันชำระของนาง

5. แต่ถ้านางคลอดบุตรเป็นหญิง นางจะมลทินไปสองสัปดาห์ อย่างเดียวกับเรื่องการมีประจำเดือน และนางจะต้องคอยอยู่หกสิบหกวัน ด้วยเรื่องโลหิตชำระของนาง

6. และเมื่อวันชำระของนางครบแล้ว ไม่ว่าเป็นกำหนดของบุตรชายหรือบุตรสาว ให้นางไปหาปุโรหิตที่ประตูพลับพลาแห่งชุมนุม นำลูกแกะอายุหนึ่งขวบตัวหนึ่งไปเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชาและนกพิราบหนุ่มตัวหนึ่งหรือนกเขาตัวหนึ่งเป็นเครื่องบูชาไถ่บาป

7. ให้ปุโรหิตนำถวายต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ และทำการลบมลทินให้นาง แล้วนางจะสะอาดในเรื่องโลหิตของนางตก นี่เป็นพระราชบัญญัติกล่าวด้วยเรื่องการคลอดบุตร ไม่ว่าเป็นชายหรือหญิง

8. และถ้านางไม่สามารถหาลูกแกะตัวหนึ่งได้ก็ให้นางนำนกเขาสองตัวหรือนกพิราบหนุ่มสองตัว ตัวหนึ่งเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชาและอีกตัวหนึ่งเป็นเครื่องบูชาไถ่บาป และให้ปุโรหิตทำการลบมลทินให้นาง แล้วนางจะสะอาด"
