1. พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธาตรัสว่า "ดูเถิด วันนั้นจะมาถึง คือวันที่จะเผาไหม้เหมือนเตาอบ เมื่อคนที่อวดดีทั้งสิ้น เออ และคนที่ประกอบความชั่วทั้งหมดจะเป็นเหมือนตอข้าว วันที่จะมานั้นจะไหม้เขาหมด จนไม่มีรากหรือกิ่งเหลืออยู่เลย

2. แต่ดวงอาทิตย์แห่งความชอบธรรมซึ่งมีปีกรักษาโรคภัยได้จะขึ้นมาสำหรับคนเหล่านั้นที่ยำเกรงนามของเรา เจ้าจะกระโดดโลดเต้นออกไปเหมือนลูกวัวออกไปจากคอก

3. และเจ้าจะเหยียบย่ำคนชั่ว เพราะว่าเขาจะเป็นเหมือนขี้เถ้าที่ใต้ฝ่าเท้าของเจ้าในวันนั้นเมื่อเราประกอบกิจ พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธาตรัสดังนี้แหละ

4. จงจดจำราชบัญญัติของโมเสสผู้รับใช้ของเรา ทั้งกฎเกณฑ์และคำตัดสินซึ่งเราได้บัญชาเขาไว้ที่ภูเขาโฮเรบสำหรับอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้น

5. ดูเถิด เราจะส่งเอลียาห์ผู้พยากรณ์มายังเจ้าก่อนวันแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ คือวันที่ใหญ่ยิ่งและน่าสะพึงกลัวมาถึง

6. และท่านผู้นั้นจะกระทำให้จิตใจของพ่อหันไปหาลูก และจิตใจของลูกหันไปหาพ่อ หาไม่ เราจะมาโจมตีแผ่นดินนั้นด้วยคำสาปแช่ง"
