1. Proorocie împotriva Moabului. Chiar în noaptea cînd este pustiit, Ar-Moabul este nimicit! Chiar în noaptea cînd este pustiit, Chir-Moabul este nimicit!…

2. Poporul se suie la templu şi la Dibon, pe înălţimi, ca să plîngă; Moabul se boceşte: pe Nebo şi pe Medeba toate capetele sînt rase, şi toate bărbile sînt tăiate.

3. Pe uliţe, sînt încinşi cu saci, pe acoperişuri şi în pieţe, totul geme, şi se topesc plîngînd.

4. Hesbonul şi Eleale ţipă de li se aude glasul pînă la Iahaţ, chiar şi războinicii Moabului se bocesc cu sufletul plin de groază.

5. Îmi plînge inima pentru Moab, ai cărui fugari aleargă pînă la Ţoar, pînă la Eglat-Şelişia; căci suie, plîngînd, suişul Luhitului, şi scot ţipete de durere pe drumul Horonaimului.

6. Căci apele Nimrim sînt pustiite, s'a uscat iarba, s'a dus verdeaţa, şi nu mai este niciun fir verde.

7. De aceea strîng ce le mai rămîne, şi îşi strămută averile dincolo de pîrîul sălciilor

8. Căci ţipetele înconjură hotarele Moabului; bocetele lui răsună pînă la Eglaim, şi urletele lui răsună pînă la Beer-Elim.

9. Apele Dimonului sînt pline de sînge, şi voi trimete peste Dimon noi nenorociri; un leu va veni împotriva celor scăpaţi ai Moabului, împotriva rămăşiţei din ţară.
