1. ಯೆಹೂದದ ಅರಸನಾದ ಯೋಷೀಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೆಹೋಯಾಕೀಮನ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ವರುಷದಲ್ಲಿ ನೇರೀಯನ ಮಗನಾದ ಬಾರೂಕನ ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಹಾಗೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೆರೆವಿಾಯನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ವಾಕ್ಯವೆನಂದರೆ,

2. ಬಾರೂಕನೇ, ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ–ಈಗ ನನಗೆ ಅಯ್ಯೋ!

3. ಕರ್ತನು ನನ್ನ ವ್ಯಥೆಗೆ ದುಃಖವನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ನಿಟ್ಟುಸುರು ಬಿಡುವದರಿಂದ ದಣಿದಿ ದ್ದೇನೆ; ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಾಣೆನೆಂದು ನೀನು ಹೇಳಿದಿ ಯಲ್ಲಾ.

4. ನೀನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳತಕ್ಕದ್ದೇನಂದರೆ–ಕರ್ತನು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ–ಇಗೋ, ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಕೆಡವಿಬಿಡುತ್ತೇನೆ; ನಾನು ನೆಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಿತ್ತು ಹಾಕುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಹೌದು, ಈ ಸಮಸ್ತ ದೇಶವನ್ನೇ ನಾಶಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

5. ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ನೀನು ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಮಹತ್ತಾದವು ಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತೀಯೋ? ಹುಡುಕಬೇಡ; ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಶರೀರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೇಡನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತೇನೆಂದು ಕರ್ತನು ಅನ್ನುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಆದರೂ ನೀನು ಹೋಗುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ನಿನಗೆ ಕೊಳ್ಳೆಯಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.
